July Events & Open Applications
Our next retreat plus new storytelling & writing events around the city
Hi friends,
I hope you’re reading this somewhere with air-conditioning and a tall glass of iced tea. Over here at Little Nights HQ (my kitchen) we are leaning into sandwiches and salads and other no-oven recipes. This is also your reminder to drink another glass of water and, if possible, not read the news until after lunch.
Things are moving slightly slower in this early summer heat but we’re still making big plans for the fall, and none bigger than our next Little Nights Big Weekend creative retreat. As of today applications are officially open to join us the last weekend in September (9/27-29) for a few days of writing, drawing, and community-making. Submit your app by July 31st and choose between having your own room, sharing a room with a friend, or camping under the stars.
July is also the return of Club Motte Storytelling, which we’re excited to be hosting outside on Artshack’s patio. This month’s theme is Temptation.
Lastly, we have two Drink ‘N Drafts around the city, as well as a new creative prompt for paid subscribers (available at the bottom of this email).
Scroll for more info on each, and hope to see you soon!

The theme for July’s Club Motte Storytelling is Temptation.
We’ve all been tempted—toward something or someone—even when we knew it was wrong. Sometimes we succumb to those temptations and sometimes we resist. Sometimes we’re even the ones doing the tempting. Whether it’s a small indiscretion or a life-changing moment, a regrettable act or one of your better decisions, join us for a night of live stories and tell us all about it.
Artshack Cafe, Bed-Stuy
Wednesday, July 24th from 7-10pm
RSVP to learn more and reserve your seat!
Drink 'N Drafts are a writing-version of the classic Drink 'N Draw, where instead of models and figure drawing, we project a series of images for you to use as creative writing prompts. Fiction, poetry, essay, screenplay—write whatever you want! Paper and pencils provided, no laptops allowed.
We're hosting two Drink 'N Drafts in July—
Book Club Bar, East Village
Wednesday, July 3rd from 8-10pm (RSVP)
Center for Fiction, Fort Greene
Sunday, July 14th from 5-7pm (RSVP)
Join us for our next creative retreat in Highland, New York!
For two days and nights (9/27-9/29) we’ll be writing, drawing, and exercising all those creative muscles we rarely have the time and space to activate in our everyday lives.
Unlike other residencies, you don’t have to be a writer or an artist to join. You don’t need a portfolio or a writing sample. You don’t even need to have any experience writing or drawing. All you need is to want to spend a few days focused on your creative practice and an interest in doing that work in a small community of 6-8 others. Learn more and apply today!
*For our September retreat there are both indoor and camping spots available.
